FMG CREATE SPECIAL EMERGENCY SERVICES TRAINING EXERCISE
5 July 2012
Here at FMG we’re always looking for ways to improve how we work with other agencies so that we can better serve our customers. With this in mind we teamed up with West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue, Yorkshire Ambulance, West Yorkshire Police HART (Hazardous Area Response Team), The Highways Agency and some of our recovery operators to create a very special training exercise. The exercise replicated a multi vehicle road traffic accident with a chemical spillage that gave all involved parties the opportunity to practice skills, techniques and process that are used to respond to these type of incidents.
With the Olympics looming and the possibility of Bus and Coach shortages, FMG also created a Coach recovery scenario, testing the safety aspects and methods on how to recover a disabled coach loaded with passengers to a place of safety if no alternative or replacement transport can be arranged in a reasonable time.
Ian Leaver organiser of the exercise said “the event was extremely useful for all involved. We recreated the accident and spillage to the most realistic standards we could to ensure the exercise helped improve the skills, experience and overall service provided by these services and reduce impact of incidents”.
